Creating a Custom Widget

What can you do with the Custom Widget?

With the Custom Widget, you can display content from other websites to attendees, without them needing to leave the event board. Use it to display videos, show livestreams, drive ticket purchases, reference useful web pages, and much more.

Setting up your Custom Widget

To set up your Custom Widget, first enable it in the "Customize Your Board" popup (found by clicking the "+" in your menu bar) . Click the "Customize" button that appears in the upper right corner.

Here, you'll see two fields - one to enter the title of your custom tab (this is what will display in your event's menu bar, alongside "Checklist", "Chat", "Photo Wall", etc.)

The second is a field to enter the URL of the website you'd like to embed.

Customizing your Widget

When you're ready, click the Finish button, and you should see the page, video, livestream, etc. appear.

Troubleshooting

Why doesn't my embed code work when I paste it in?

The Custom Widget accepts URLs only (beginning with https://), not embed codes. If the site you're attempting to embed has given you an embed code rather than a URL, just copy and paste the URL as it appears inside the embed code.

For example, if you have this embed code from Youtube:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gLifL0x88cE" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You need to copy and paste just the URL from inside the embed code:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/gLifL0x88cE

I'm seeing an error saying “[site] has refused to connect” What does that mean?

Some websites (like YouTube) give content creators the option to control whether or not their content can be embedded elsewhere. If you're seeing an error, it might be because the content creator has disabled external embedding. If you are the original content creator, try checking the settings on the other site to see if there is an option to allow external embedding. Otherwise, you will need to contact the content creator.

Certain websites will not let you embed their content externally at all. If this is the case, you cannot display this content within the Custom Widget.

Important: The Custom Widget works best with publicly-accessible pages. If the content you are trying to display requires a user login in order to access, your attendees will likely be shown the login/home page of that site first.
